Coalitions

Posted: 11 October 2010. Updated: 11 October 2010

The ADI group are responsible for, or involved in a range of campaigning coalitions: Animal Defenders International co-ordinates the International Network for the Protection of Performing Animals and is also a member of the Species Survival Network. The NAVS co-ordinates the Responsible Science Network; the Lord Dowding Fund is a member of Focus on Alternatives.

The International Network for the Protection of Performing Animals

The International Network for the Protection of Performing Animals was initiated in 2001 by Animal Defenders International. The focus of the alliance is the use of animals in all forms of entertainment - films, television, advertising, theatre, and of course in circuses.

Membership of the coalition is open to organisations rather than individuals, since it is envisaged as a coordinating body, drawing together opposition to the abuse of animals in entertainment.

Responsible Science Network

Launched in 2001, the Responsible Science Network is an information exchange and mutual support base, allowing anti-vivisection groups worldwide to exchange ideas, share information, share campaigns experience, and support each other.

Species Survival Network

The Species Survival Network (SSN), founded in 1992, is an international coalition of over sixty non-governmental organisations (NGOs) committed to the promotion, enhancement, and strict enforcement of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species). Through scientific and legal research, education and advocacy, the SSN is working to prevent over-exploitation of animals and plants due to international commercial trade. Animal Defenders International is a member of SSN.

Focus on Alternatives

The Lord Dowding Fund is a member of Focus on Alternatives (FOA), a coalition established three years ago. The other coalition members are the Dr Hadwen Trust for Humane Research, Fund for the Replacement of Animals in Medical Experiments (FRAME), the Humane Research Trust, RSPCA and the St Andrews Animal Fund. The aim of FOA is to enable these organisations, with similar aims and objectives, to work together.
