Animals in space research

Posted: 4 June 2013. Updated: 4 June 2013

Our campaign to stop animals being used in experiments for space exploration has been waged worldwide. This will continue until no more animals are used in needless and scientifically unsound research.

In Los Angeles we instigated a campaign in Congress to halt NASA experiments while in London a global drive urging people to contact the US and Russian Embassies was co-ordinated.
The campaign has attracted the backing of astronauts, former NASA employees, and a commitment from the European Space Agency not to perform monkey experiments. Find out more

A dog called Laika was the first living mammal to orbit the Earth, in 1957. Laika died a few hours after launch, the true cause and time of her death not being made public until 2002. Find out more and listen to the song by Maria Daines and Paul Killington in her memory .
