India announces elephant circus ban!

November 2013: In light of the “huge cruelties and abuse” suffered by elephants in circuses, the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) has announced that it is to ban the use of elephants in circuses. The decision was made at its General Meeting in August, the minutes of which have just been made public, and came after an investigation authorised by the AWBI. In August ADI welcomed the news that the AWBI had stated its intention to ban ALL animals within a year (see below) and whilst this latest announcement is wonderful news we look forward to the day when no animal will have to suffer in an Indian circus.
