Australian local circus ban overturned by Gold Coast Council

Bad News: The Gold Coast Council has overturned its wild animal circus ban. The Council was divided equally, but Mayor Tom Tate used his casting vote to lift the ban, ignoring local, national and international opinion on the issue. This was very close and our thanks to everyone who contacted the Council. Please email Gold Coast Council members urging them to reconsider this at the earliest opportunity.

Hobsons Bay Council introduces animal circus ban

Great news! Hobsons Bay Council in Altona, Victoria, voted to ban circuses with exotic animals on their land at a meeting held on 25 September 2012.

The decision follows complaints received by the council when Lennon Bros Circus, which featured lions and monkeys, hired Apex Park earlier in the year.

ADI congratulates Councillor Luba Grigorovitch for leading the policy change.
