Wilson County Fair to host Banana Derby Monkey Jockeys

Posted: 13 August 2014. Updated: 13 August 2014

The Wilson County Fair in Lebanon, TN is once again to feature the Banana Derby, self-titled as “America’s Favorite Monkey Jockeys”. The races will be held every day of the event, which is scheduled to run from August 15 to August 23, 2014, with several races held each day.

This shameful act, shown in video footage posted on Banana Derby’s Facebook page and website, features monkeys dressed in costumes, strapped and chained to the backs of dogs that race around a makeshift track.

ADI has contacted the Fair organizers to express our dismay and ask that they immediately cancel the Banana Derby and adopt a “no animals” policy for future events.

Take Action

  • Please send a polite email urging the Fair organizers to cancel this event to President Hale Moss and Executive Director Helen McPeak
  • Learn more about ADI’s campaign to end the use of animals in entertainment
