Stand Against Animal Crush Videos

Animal Defenders International (ADI) fully supports the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act (HR2933/S1831), sponsored by US Representative Lamar Smith and Senators Patrick Toomey and Richard Blumenthal, to prohibit animal crushing and animal crush videos. The bill builds upon an earlier 2010 law to include interstate and foreign commerce; it defines “animal crushing” as “actual conduct” wherein animals are “intentionally crushed, burned, drowned, suffocated, impaled, or otherwise subjected to serious bodily injury” and “animal crush videos” as an image that “depicts animal crushing” and “is obscene.”

In December, 2016, the US Senate unanimously passed Sen. Toomey’s & Blumenthal’s Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act (S1831), to prohibit animal crush videos - which depict obscene animal torture as twisted “entertainment” – expanding a 2010 law to interstate/foreign commerce, as a federal felony. The House companion didn’t pass before session ended, but was supported by more than 250 bipartisan cosponsors and law enforcement. Now it’s up to the next Congress.

ADI agrees - animal crush videos are obscenity not afforded First Amendment protections. These disgusting depictions of illegal and gruesome acts of depravity - killing and torturing innocent sentient creatures - are a sad reflection of the work yet to be done for animals.
ADI thanks Sen. Toomey, Rep. Smith, and PACT’s 230 cosponsors for taking this issue to task.

"Torturing and killing defenseless animals for cheap sexual thrills is disgusting, obscene, and unconscionable. We urge Congress to support PACT and end this horrific animal cruelty.”
ADI President Jan Creamer

In the US, urge the new Congress to pass the long overdue PACT Act:
