Following a series of working parties and meetings between officials of the Ministry of the Interior and academics, researchers, jurists, and members of the coalition Colombia Sin Toreo, of which ADI is a member, the bill to ban bullfighting in Colombia was prepared and finalized. Representatives of the coalition played a decisive role in the process, defending the prohibitive approach that the bill should have, surpassing regulatory intentions.

The Bill was filed at the Colombian Congress on May 4, 2017 by Interior Minister Juan Fernando Cristo, Vice Minister Luis Ernesto Gómez and a delegation of Colombia Sin Toreo.

The bill creation and defence of an initiative to abolish bullfighting in Colombia by the government would previously have been unthinkable. That the government has considered and is defending the rights of animals is a breakthrough and of historical importance.
