1004 rhinos killed in South Africa last year

Posted: 22 January 2014

A shocking statistic was announced by the South African government last week that 1004 rhinos had been illegally killed in 2013 in South Africa the worst year on record.

The horns for which these animals are brutally murdered are smuggled out of the country and into Vietnam and China neighbouring Mozambique is known as a transit point.

Time is running out for this iconic animal. Although commitments have been made by all parties it remains to be seen whether these will translate in the reduction in demand, and therefore poaching, that is urgently needed to safeguard the species.
