Ivory ban in China this year

Posted: 10 January 2017

In what could be one of the biggest ever breakthroughs to protest elephants in the wild, 2017 will be the year that China brings to an end its domestic ivory trade, with a ban on processing and trading implemented by the end of the year.

Pledged in 2015, this hugely important move from the world’s biggest ivory market will save elephant lives and, ADI hopes, spur other countries into action.

We know you will join us in campaigning to make this happen.

Note: Unless the law is further tightened, “cultural relics made of ivory”, e.g. antiques, could still be “auctioned under strict supervision”.
