Animal Defenders International

Lion Ark this weekend at Anchorage International Film Festival

Posted: 12 December 2013

This weekend, the award-winning film Lion Ark will screen at Anchorage International Film Festival on Saturday, December 14th at 3:30pm at the Wilda Marston Theatre for FREE, followed by a second screening on Sunday, December 15th at 3:00pm at the Alaska Experience Theater (tickets $8).

Each screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s director Tim Phillips and producer Jan Creamer, who will be available for interviews before and after the screenings.

Made more in the style of an action adventure than traditional documentary, Lion Ark follows an ambitious and daring animal rescue. A shocking undercover exposé leads Bolivia to ban animal circuses. But the circuses defy the law and the Animal Defenders International (ADI) team behind the investigation returns to track them down, enforce the law and save the animals.

In Lion Ark, the audience is right in the thick of the action – as the rescues happen – this is about getting close up and personal with the animals, and with the rescuers. The audience gets to connect with the animals – the stars of the film – and understand how they are feeling as their lives transform on their journey to freedom. This is not “talking heads” and interviews, but live action.

The movie has stormed the festivals – a fantastic world premiere at Raindance Film Festival, London, followed by huge audiences at Lion Ark’s US premiere at Mill Valley Film Festival, CA and four back to back sell out screenings at Starz Denver Film Festival. At San Diego Film Festival the movie won the Audience Choice Award for Best Documentary, and at Sun & Sand Film & Music Festival, Lion Ark won Best Documentary. At Hawaii International Film Festival the audience said it was the best documentary they have ever seen.
