Award-Winning Animal Rescue Film Screens This Week & Next at Palm Beach Film Festival

Posted: 31 March 2014

Animal rescue documentary Lion Ark returns to Florida at the Palm Beach International Film Festival, screening this Saturday, April 5th at 4pm and next Wednesday, April 9th at 11:30am. Both screenings will be followed by a Q&A session with Lion Ark Director and Bolivia rescue team member, ADI Vice President Tim Phillips.

More action adventure than traditional documentary, award-winning, feel-good movie Lion Ark follows the world’s most ambitious animal rescue, and puts the audience right in the thick of the action – up close with the animals. This is not “talking heads” and retrospective interviews, but live, unpredictable action as it actually unfolds.

A shocking undercover investigation leads to a ban on animal circuses in Bolivia. But the circuses defy the law. The Animal Defenders International team behind the investigation returns, tracks down the illegal circuses and saves every animal. The confrontations, heartache and incredible risks the rescue team face are all captured before a joyous finale sees an incredible airlift of 25 lions to freedom in Colorado.

Since its premiere last Fall, Lion Ark has won Audience Choice Awards at San Diego Film Festival, Anchorage International Film Festival and Sedona International Film Festival, Best Documentary awards at Sun & Sand The Mississippi Film & Music Festival and Omaha Film Festival, and enjoyed sell out shows in Beloit, WI, Raindance, London, Mill Valley, CA and Starz Denver. Last month, the surprise hit became the first animal rights film to be nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding International Motion Picture.

Tim Phillips, Director of Lion Ark says: “We are really looking forward to the Lion Ark screenings at Palm Beach International Film Festival, and believe people will really enjoy the film. The reaction of people to Lion Ark has been overwhelming. I think it has really engaged audiences, they are seeing something exciting and dramatic and it is something that they can be involved in, and that they really can make a difference.”
