Lion Ark premieres in Austria at Crossroads Festival

Posted: 25 May 2014

Graz, Austria – Critically acclaimed documentary Lion Ark will premiere in Austria at the Crossroads Festival in Graz on May 31. The premiere will be followed by a Question & Answer session with Animal Defenders International (ADI), the animal protection organisation that undertook the daring rescue.

The Lion Ark story is about our two-year undercover investigation of animal circuses in South America, which led to public outrage about animal cruelty and calls for action in Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and others. Bolivia introduced their law first. See the undercover investigations, the lobbying, the law and enforcement of the ban on animal circuses in Bolivia. Circuses that defy the new law are tracked down, animals saved, and a joyous finale sees 25 lions airlifted in our Operation Lion Ark flight, to freedom in Colorado.

What is engaging audiences in a new way is that Lion Ark is more action adventure style than traditional documentary. This is close up and personal, right in the thick of the action; as close as you get to these animals, understanding them and the effects of circus life.

It is a story of bravery, compassion, camaraderie and determination. How a poor but proud country said “no” to cruelty and how attitudes to animals were changed across an entire continent.

This is your chance to be one of the first in Austria to see the “feel good movie of the year”.

Further details

Tim Phillips, Director of Lion Ark says: “Lion Ark is that rare thing, a film about a serious animal protection issue that has a happy ending and will leave you smiling. This is an uplifting film that shows what people can do when they pull together and take action. It is a film about cooperation and working for a better world.”

Lion Ark is only the beginning. Preparations are underway right now to launch Operation Spirit of Freedom in Peru – an epic-scale rescue mission to relocate a huge number of animals, from lions and tigers, to monkeys, birds and coati. All donations from the Lion Ark premiere will go towards saving these animals from lives of despair.
