Posted: 24 September 2019. Updated: 24 September 2019

On Saturday, October 12, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, The Guibord Center will present “Sacred Stories of Animals, Faith, and Compassion” at the Hollywood Vedanta Temple, 1946 Vedanta Place, Hollywood, CA 90068. The event will feature guest speakers Jan Creamer and Tim Phillips, founders of Animal Defenders International (ADI), telling the moving, real-life stories of the animals they’ve rescued throughout the world, and bringing the latest news from Guatemala, where ADI has rescued 21 lions and tigers from circuses as part of Operation Liberty, as well as news about the new ADI Wildlife Sanctuary in South Africa. Sura Das from the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Nirinjan Singh Khalsa from the California Sikh Council, and Sister Pravrajika Vidyaprana from the Vedanta Society Convent will share animal tales from their spiritual traditions as well.

Following the presentation, guests will enjoy a reception and refreshments on the serene temple grounds, where they will have an opportunity to speak further with the presenters.

Notable attendees will include:
•Jan Creamer, co-founder and President, Animal Defenders International
•Tim Phillips, co-founder and Vice President, Animal Defenders International
•Sura Das, International Society for Krishna Consciousness
•Nirinjan Singh Khalsa, California Sikh Council
•Sister Pravrajika Vidyaprana, Vedanta Society Convent
•Leaders from various Southern California faith communities

The late Rev. Dr. Gwynne Guibord, Founder and President Emerita of The Guibord Center, recognized that the voice of faith is largely missing from the conversation about animals and their treatment, and decided to change that. In 2017, she committed to raise public awareness and enable ADI to bring the faith perspective to their work.

The event marks the second time that ADI has collaborated with The Guibord Center in recent months. On September 14, ADI presented the short film, ANIMA: Animals. Faith. Compassion, alongside Executive Producer and President of The Guibord Center Dr. Lo Sprague, at the United Church of Christ in Simi Valley, CA.
