Questionnaires were sent to many charities in order to determine their current status regarding the funding or use of animals in research. Many charities did not respond to our requests or asked not to be included in the guide. This is where supporters contribution can be extremely helpful in gathering information. There are a few simple things which supporters can do to find information regarding a charity, if they are not on our list:
1. Do a simple search on the charities website for “animal policy”. This may bring up the organisations statement on animal use, if they have a clear policy.
2. Call the organisation and explain that you are looking to donate to a charity which does not carry out or fund research involving animals. If you are given an answer over the phone, ask for written confirmation, which could then be passed to us for our records.
3. Write a letter to the charity explaining your position. This can sometimes be more successful as post is likely to be processed and dealt with, giving you a definitive written response.
